COLORLINE - "FESTIVAL"
The photograph depicts the cruise-ferry "Festival" operating between Oslo and Denmark . It was taken into the Colorline fleet two years ago. Recently, our distributor - Monitrols - was requested to carry out a survey of the level gauging system and repair/recalibrate wherever necessary. Monitrols were surprised to find the ship was fitted with approx. 70 pcs PSM series 200 sensors originally supplied 16 years ago when the ships were first built in Finland. The Chief reported that most of the sensors appeared still to be working after all that time although clearly some replacements and recalibration would be fully expected For some ballast tanks it was also decided that it was not economic to refurbish all the old sensors, cleaning away the build up of scale, chlorides, corrosive deposits etc, hence a number of replacement 360s have been supplied and fitted by Monitrols.
PSM is not aware of any maintenance or spares supplied in all that time and commented that it was good to see further reports of those early sensors still operating well. Worth special note was the aft draft sensor (316 st.st. and Monel capsule) which was clean and completely free of any signs of corrosion. Not bad for 16 years in the worst of environments!
